Adopt a Star

Doesn't the idea of getting to adopt a star sound really cool?  I know it does for me. But then, I was a Star Trek fan when I was growing up (I watched the original series constantly -- and yeah, that does make me sound old, doesn't it!)

Like so many kids who grew up enjoying various forms of science fiction, I always imagined what it would be like living in space, travelling to remote galaxies, and maybe even interacting with alien life forms from time to time. (Although really the only ones I wanted to meet were the fluffy little Tribbles!)

As photographs from the amazing Hubble telescope have shown us, the Earth isn't even a small postage stamp on the letter of the Universe. Okay, let me put that more succinctly. We're barely a piece of dust here on planet Earth compared to the vast array of planets and stars that exist in other galaxies.

The idea of all of these galaxies out there, unexplored, possibly inhabited by lifeforms different from our own, is enough to captivate anybody.

You don't have to be a scientist to appreciate the beauty of remote stars and planets. Most children are born with the innate sense of wonderment that makes them appreciate the stars in the sky at night and the movements of the moon and the planets.

You can take that curiosity in astronomy and that passion for space and capitalize on it. If you know someone who adores the stars, has always talked about visiting remote planets, or who is passionate about watching their weekly science fiction TV shows, you might want to think about adopting a star for them.

If you "adopt a star," it's more like establishing a friendship with a star. You don't get to KEEP that star, and no official organization like NASA will acknowledge that you "own" that star. But you CAN adopt a star through various star registries who specialize in providing unique star charts and other cool information when you sign up to adopt your own star.

This type of gift works well when you're trying to find something unusual for someone. And it can also be deeply meaningful to someone if they are going through a period of personal loss or big change in their life. Stars are incredibly symbolic things. When you tell someone, by adopting a star in their name, that they will always be your shining star, you're sending a message of hope and love that transcends distance and time. Stars are ancient, amazing manifestations of an impossibly inscrutable Creator -- and magical, too. At least, they FEEL magical.

So go ahead and adopt a star for someone and show them how much they will always mean to you. Show them that you honor their spiritual "light" that they shine out into the universe. Show them that they are as unique and glorious as the star you've decided to adopt for them, even if that star is far, far, away.

Star kits make it super easy to memorialize a special event, pay tribute to someone extraordinary, or give a loved one a meaningful gift they will treasure for a lifetime.

Make a powerful impact on someone and lift their spirits with the gift of a star.
